Mtn Vs. Baba 2010: Baba 2010 Made MTN Brand Ambassador, Barrister Rockson Igelige Says ‘Not So Quick’!

Mr Omenuwoma Okson Dovie aka Baba 2010 has received a letter of offer as an MTN Brand Ambassador as part of the out-of-court settlement agreement earlier

reached during the copyright infringement case between Baba 2010 and the communications giant.

The offer is meant to last for one year if accepted.

Recall that Baba 2010 had, through his lawyers, the Barrister Rockson Igelige-led legal team of Felix, Igelige and Associates, served a Notice of Intention to MTN on 6th August, 2015, accusing it of illegally using its client's  four musical works- Gentleman, Omotena, Twisted, Unity Song- as caller tunes/ringtones without authorization from the musician for well over three years upon the payment of N50 subscription fee.

The copyright infringement allegation had finally climaxed on Nov 4th, 2015 when two of Baba 2010's lawyers, Barr. Ogaga Ifowodo and Barr. Rockson Igelige, filed a N500M copyright violation suit against MTN Nigeria Communications Ltd in Suit no FHC/ABJ/CS/895/15.

Both parties had settled out of court few months after NCC commenced criminal charges against MTN, with the agreement that Baba 2010 will be made an MTN Brand Ambassador amongst other terms agreed by both parties.

In a brief interview with Baba 2010' s lawyer, Barrister Rockson Igelige, on his views about this latest development, he told Jovoflavour that, “MTN’s offer to make my client a Brand Ambassador is a welcome development but we are not going to accept the offer just yet as all the terms we agreed on were not fulfilled or written down in their letter of offer”.
