Hero Dies Saving Woman From Falling Lift. Read His Last Words Here...

25-year-old Stephen Hewett-Brown saved Sanchez, 43, from a falling lift on New Year's eve and was trying to escape the stalled lift in an apartment building in Manhattan  when he was fatally crushed
at around 11.30pm, police said.

According to an eye-witness, Manuel Coronado, the hero Hewett-Brown's last words were "Happy New Year" before he pushed resident Erude Sanchez out of the lift to safety and it fell down the shaft, taking him with it.

"It was sheer chance Hewett-Brown, 25, was even in the elevator to aid Sanchez, 43, the New York Daily News reports .

The young hero didn’t live in the 26-story building but had come from the Bronx to attend a New Year's Eve party.

He was rushed to New York Hospital in "traumatic arrest" at 11.54pm, a fire service spokesman said, but he could not be saved.

May God rest his soul.
