Heartbreaking: How Aid Worker Rescues 2-yr-old 'Abandoned For Being a Wizard'

Anja giving water and food to an abandoned child
I happened on this story in Anja's Facebook wall just this morning and was absolutely heartbroken. I felt I should share.
The malnourished, all skin-and-bones child pictured above is a two-year old Nigerian child reportedly accused of 'being a wizard' by his family and
consequently abandoned by the mother on the streets where he lived for eight months.

Hungry, lonely, cold, scared, he survived on refuse dumps and whatever he could find until an angel named Anja Ringgren Lovén found him. Anja is the Danish founder of the African Children's Aid Education and
Development Foundation.
Ms Anja sold everything she owned to set up her charity three years ago so she could help abandoned children accused of being witches/wizards in Africa.

In the series of heartbreaking photographs below, Anja is seen carrying the emanciated child from the dangers of the street to safety, wrapping him with a cloth for warmth and taking him to the hospital for treatment.

Can you imagine being a 2-year old and living this hell?

After taking the boy to the hospital, Anja reported how he was diagnosed of being riddled with worms but will soon be well enough to join the other children she looks after in Uyo, Southern Nigeria. She added that she had named the boy Hope (a word she has tattooed on her knuckles).

Here's a picture of Hope recovering in the hospital after his hope has been restored by one of the rare breed who gives the  world hope.

People like anja sure do restore our faith in humanity. Thank you Anja.
