The Araya Progress Union (APU) honoured one of their illustrous sons, Major Gen. N.O. Amarie (Retd) at the Union's Secretariat on Sunday, May 1st, 2016.

The Chairmen of the Union, Mr Charles Enigheno and Mr Mathias Adidi while recounting most of his achievements, said he has helped the body in more ways than one and it warrants him being honoured
else it amounts to ingratitude, a trait that displeased even Jesus Christ in Bible times.

Speaking, Major Gen. (Retd) Amarie expressed his overwhelming joy for being found worthy by the Union of such an honour. He says, "I feel honoured that this great Union found me worthy of this award. I am even more grateful to God who saw me through my years in the Army. I never joined as an infantry but as a Medical Doctor and the highest rank one is expected to get to is a Colonel, but with God's special grace upon me, I made it to a Major General and did some six months extra after my expected date of retirement. I was never demoted".

He also harped on the need for the Union to have a Youth body comprising of skilled-youths. He stated that the importance of having one skill or the other cannot be over-emphasized because that is your bargaining power that lets your foes and friends alike meet you when they need your services.

He was thereafter made a Patron of the Union.

Some of the attendees included  Mrs Osima (the Chairlady), Mr and Mrs Dimoko,  Mr Joe-Aruga Omokaro (JP), Editor-in-Chief of The SUPREME weekly newspaper, Captain Idhalama (pilot),  Emma Ebe (criminologist), Mrs Ogho, Mr Ernest Amarie, Mr Odafe Odioko, Mr Atkin Obodago, ATSA founder/President and a host of other illustrous sons and daughters of Araya.

On the award plaque were written the words: Major General (Rtd) Dr. Napoleon Amarie. This is in recognition of your unblemished career in the Nigerian  Army. For your selfless contributions to the upliftment of the Araya community, both at home and in Lagos.
