Oyinlola Rotimi, (pictured above) is a 22 years old undergraduate of Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology, 400L, at OAU. She delivered a baby boy last Wednesday and allegedly attempted flushing the new born down the toilet, The new mother who was rushed to the hospital on the day of the incident, was discharged from the hospital on Friday, due to medical fitness. She said she did not attempt flushing

her baby down the water closet as the papers have reported. In the presence of the hospital matron, Mrs, M.G. Oyedele, Oyinlola stated that prior to the delivery, she was passing stool and had visited the toilet several times but the last time she went around 7am, she could not understand how she was feeling.

After proper investigations into the incident, the authorities debunked the allegation, saying, “ our student did not attempt to flush a baby down the toilet”.

A statement by the Head, Public Relations Unit, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, said investigations into the incident revealed that the mother, Oyinlola Rotimi , had no such evil intentions but it was a case of an inexperienced mother who, in her naivety, thought she was pressed to answer the call of nature when she was actually  in labour. The young, inexperienced mother had discovered that she was bleeding and went to the toilet only to observe that something expelled into the water closet”.

“It was at that juncture that she screamed and called for help. Her friend and roommate, Miss  Satope Oladayo, heard her shout and traced her to the toilet from their room. It was Satope that called an elderly cleaner for assistance when she entered the toilet and found the baby there.

“ As of now, Oyinlola has stated breastfeeding the baby and her mother is with her.‘
