Boko Haram: Abubakar Shekau Is Dead, Latest Video Was Staged – JTF

Good news? The Joint Task Force, Operation Restore Order, Maiduguri, Borno State, in a statement by its spokesperson, Lt-Col Sagir Musa, today said intelligence report available to it “revealed that the most dreaded and wanted Boko Haram Terrorists leader, Abubakar Shekau, “may have died of gunshot wound received in an encounter with the JTF troops in one of their camps at Sambisa Forest on 30 June 2013.”

"Shekau was mortally wounded in the encounter and was sneaked into Amitchide - a
border community in Cameroon for treatment... It is greatly believed that Shekau might have died between July 25 and August 3 2013," Musa said.

The JTF said the latest video by Shekau released on August 13, was staged and "dramatized by an imposter to hoodwink the sect members to continue with the terrorism", he added.

On August 14, the military said it had killed Boko Haram's second-in-command, Momodu Bama, also known by his alias "Abu Saad".
