The MTV Video Movies Awards took place Sunday 25th August
2013 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn ,
New York
For half a decade plus now, Gaga has served as
the reliable producer of those jaw-dropping
Obscene moments that dominate water cooler talk
the next day. This year looked different apart from the fact that she did not receive any VMA nominations because she has been out of the spotlight for the past year.
It was a predictably unpredictable appearance for Gaga, who
pumped in boos over the
sound system as she come out standing in a milk carton, a few retrospective wig changes, smearing some paint on her face, then opened the song in a white nun's habit and square headdress. Gaga changed costumes four times during her first return to the stage since hip surgery as she performed her new single "Applause" at the top of the show.

By the time she finished the song, she was surrounded by
unitard-clad male dancers and wearing a thong bikini decorated in shells and a
long blonde wig. Step aside, Lady Gaga. There's a new shock pop princess at the
MTV Video Music Awards. If you thought that was provocative, here’s introducing the
real sucker punch of the night: the girl who was still practically a Disney
princess while Gaga was rocking a meat dress – Miley Cyprus .
Cyrus immediately kicked things up well beyond provocative,
however, as she appeared on stage fitting nicely into the crown for Queen
of Obscene, funny hair horns and
a multitude of dancing teddy bears in a bodysuit adorned with a cartoon
character.
She twerked to her song "We Can't Stop," changed into a
nude bikini, gyrating in a flesh-toned plastic bikini with a foam "We're
No. 1" hand." ran a fan's foam finger along her privates as Robin
Thicke appeared on stage to perform "Blurred Lines," then gave the
singer a lap dance.
It was definitely one of the night's most talked-about
moments, with some fans expressing shock and others applauding the pop singer's
wild antics.
