UPDATE: NCC to invite MTN over alleged Callertunes theft

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has concluded plans to invite the mobile communication firm, MTN, over allegations of unauthorized usage of four of Baba 2010's musical works- Gentleman, Omotena, Twisted and Unity Song-  as callertunes.

A call to the Commission's Director of Enforcement,
Mr Austin Amodu confirmed this stand. "We have invited Baba 2010's lawyers to come to the Commission by 12 noon on Thursday, 3rd of September, 2015, so we can hear their own side of the story".

The Commission which is a Federal Government agency and the highest body regulating, advising and monitoring matters of copyright laws in Nigeria is empowered to police all matters on copyright. It advances the cause of copyright interest holders and have the powers to approve who can go to court as captured under Section 17 of the Copyright Act.

Mr Austin Amodu who prided himself as a working Director of Enforcement went on: "We have a copy of their Letter to MTN here with us and we have opened a file for them but that is not enough. We need to take their statement then invite MtN over as well, take their statements too and if there is evidence of copyright infringement, we go to court and get a conviction. We have had over 58 copyright convictions from 2011 till now. We are not resting on our oars". Mr Austin Amodu said.

If you are as curious as I am to see how this Baba 2010's alleged copyright issue with MTN gets resolved, then watch this space!
