Court of Appeal Acquits condemned Al-Mustapha

The Court of Appeal, today, in Lagos has discharged and acquitted Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State,General Sani Abacha of the murder of Kudirat Abiola wife of Chief MKO Abiola who was killed in 1996.

The judgment overturns that of the Lagos High Court which sentenced the retired Colonel to death

by hanging on January 30, 2012, for conspiracy and murder of Mrs. Abiola. Mrs. Abiola, 45, was shot in Lagos on June 4, 1996, as the lower court ruled, on the orders of Mr. Al-Mustapha.


 The Court of Appeal, in their ruling, said there was not enough evidence to incriminate Al-Mustapha in the murder of Late Mrs Abiola. The presiding Judge accused the lower court of being "stroked to secure a conviction by all means."
