Days before the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, is due
to give birth, Buckingham palace announces that the Queen's granddaughter, Zara
Phillips and her husband, rugby player, Mike Tindall are expecting their first
baby in the New Year.
In a statement today, Buckingham Palace
said: "Mr and Mrs Mike Tindall are very pleased to announce that Zara
Tindall is expecting a baby in the new year."
It went on: "The Princess Royal and Captain Mark
Phillips,
Mr Phillip and Mrs Linda Tindall, and members of both families are delighted with the news”.
Britain
is currently awaiting a more imminent royal birth with Prince William's wife,
Kate Middleton, who is expected to give birth this month to a baby who will
become third in line to the throne.
Mr Phillip and Mrs Linda Tindall, and members of both families are delighted with the news”.
"This baby will be the first child for Mike and Zara
and the third grandchild for the Princess Royal."
The baby will be the Princess Royal's third grandchild. The
only daughter and second child of Queen Elizabeth, Anne, married Mark Phillips
in 1973 but the couple divorced in 1992 after having two children, Zara and
Peter.
Zara Phillips, 32, does not hold a royal title and is not an
HRH. The new baby will become 16th in line to the throne and the fourth great
grandchild to the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. Her children will be titled
Miss or Master Tindall.
Prime Minister David Cameron's official spokesman described
the announcement as "quite terrific news".
He told reporters: "The Prime Minister will send his
very, very best wishes to the happy couple."
