Barely 10 days after a three-storey building collapsed at Ebute Metta, killing about seven people, a two-storey building under construction at 29 Ishaga road, Surulere, Lagos has collapsed.
Early this morning, the first half of the uncompleted building collapsed with about 7 workers trapped inside including a breadseller and her baby. She was said to have incidentally ran into the building for shelter to avoid getting wet by the rain minutes before the building collapsed.
The remaining part of the building as shown in the picture below collapsed an hour later.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) initially sent out an alert stating that two people died and three others were rescued, but sadly the body of a 13 year old girl that was later recovered from the rubble of the collapsed building scene has taken the death toll to three people.
NEMA spokesman in Lagos, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye told reporters that the three rescued alive have been rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching hospital, with one of them needing to be operated on.
