The nationwide indefinite strike embarked upon on April 29 by
Nigeria ’s
Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, over what they termed Federal
Government’s insensitivity to its demands, was called off Tuesday 16th July
2013.
The decision to suspend the strike was reportedly as a
result of the intervention of the Joint committee
of the Senate and House of
Representatives on Education
Academic activities are expected to resume today in all the
Federal and State Polytechnics nationwide and polytechnic students across the
country are expected to return to their classrooms following the suspension of
the 81-day industrial action by the Polytechnic lecturers
The ASUP Chairman Dr. Chibuzor Asumogba, called on all
lecturers to go back to work. “All lecturers are to resume work at their
various institutions today”, He said.
Meanwhile, efforts by the Joint Senate and House of
Representative Committees on Education to resolve the crisis between the ASUU
and the Federal Government Monday night ended in deadlock.
